It should come as no surprise that the Rangers weren’t inclined to do the Thrashers any favors this afternoon. If they had beaten the Bruins (ideally in regulation time) they would have moved into a tie with the Thrashers but more importantly they would have kept Boston just one point ahead of Atlanta.
Unfortunately the Rangers fell 2-1 in regulation, so the Bruins are back to being three points ahead of Atlanta heading into tonight’s Thrashers game in Philly. If the Thrashers can come up with another win over the Flyers (like they did last night) they’ll be one point behind Boston heading into Tuesday’s home game against the Bruins with eighth place on the line. If they lose tonight they’ll have just 10 games to make up three points with the final five games of the season being against Washington, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Washington, and Pittsburgh.
No word on the exact lineup for tonight, but Chris Vivlamore says Chris Thorburn didn’t make the trip due to a combination of a back issue and the flu. The safe money is on Anderson using the same lineup that dressed last night, which would make Kozlov and Chelios the other scratches.
If you have some time to kill while you wait for tonight’s game (7 pm on SportSouth) check out this feature on Nik Antropov from former Thrashers beat writer John Manasso. It’ s about time he started getting some recognition. Antropov has been an absolute beast and would be my choice for team MVP, hands down. I don’t get to decide that though- you do.
