Colby Armstrong has been suspended for two games for his hit to the head of Mathieu Perreault last night in Washington. Capitals defenseman John Erskine has not been suspended for his hit to the head of Colby Armstrong in the same game (Erskine was giving a roughing minor on the play).
Armstrong still has a large following in Pittsburgh where he used to play and the fans there will likely be disappointed that he won’t be in the lineup tomorrow afternoon when the Thrashers visit the Penguins. He’ll also miss Tuesday night’s home game against Ilya Kovalchuk and the New Jersey Devils. He’ll be back just in time to face the Capitals again in Washington next Friday.
Chris Vivlamore has some comments form Colby about the hit and suspension. He also reports that Pavel Kubina is doubtful for tomorrow’s game, Evgeny Artyukhin is banged up, and Evander Kane will likely play tomorrow, taking Armstrong’s spot on the roster (though not necessarily the same RW spot on that line).
Tomorrow’s game is a 1pm start and the Thrashers Fan Club is hosting a viewing party at STATS. Check their site for details.
big lose……but kozzie should in his spot
I am NOT an Armstrong fan. He has been a huge dissapointment in my opinion.
Our young superstar has 29 points in 77 games, vs. Grandpa Kozzy with 25 points in only 54 games.
To be fair, Colby is +7, which on this team, is pretty good.
However, I have to give him credit for taking responsibiity and not making excuses. He handled this situation with class.
@cuzinator if you didnt know 25 points in 55 game is ok. hes (-) which isnt good but so is MacArthur. If they still played Kozzie for whole season he would have gotten 30+ points. But Anderson which in my option shouldnt isnt a great NHL coach. Bring back Heartley!
@dirtybird
i think that’s the point cuzinator was making: that in 77 games colby only has 29 points, as opposed to slava having almost the same amount of points in way less games. personally i love colby, when he’s on he’s really on, and he usually brings great energy to the whole team. he’s had a disappointing season production-wise though, no doubt about it.
i agree about anderson.. it’s just not working. i think this interview with slava says it all: http://english.sport-express.ru/summary/1_4887/
Anderson not working? You’re kidding, right? He’s been a winner at every other level where he’s coached. But looking over the roster, I see very few former Wolves on the roster, so evidently he spent the last few years developing players for the rest of the NHL.
Fact is, Anderson is a SUPERB coach, and if someone higher up in the organization wakes up and gets him better players to work with, you will see it. We’re talking about a franchise that has ONE playoff appearance in 10 years, and has won ZERO postseason games. Not saying Hartley was a bad coach, but he sure wasn’t the juggernaut you’re making him out to be. This year’s team is a mess, but Anderson has it going in the right direction. He’s gotten about as much out of the team as can reasonably be expected. He deserves more than 1 season, and if he doesn’t get it, shame on Don Waddell (all this time as GM with ZERO postseason victories… you wanna talk about something that isn’t working, look no further…)
@Omar Hate It or Love It this team is good enough to get a playoffs spot but no Stanley cup. Anderson isnt a good coach. I can argee our goalie arent good enough for the playoffs but Coaches should make the players not Players make the coaches. I say he should be a assistant coach not right away head coach(even though he was in Chicago for a while.)
@Dora I read thats a same that Atlanta Managers are dissing kovy. Kovy made this team if he was never here the thrashers would be gone Long time ago. FIRE WADDELL!
gotta say, this warrants a suspension but the matt cooke hit on savard doesnt? maybe army just plays for the wrong team
