MacArthur Now a UFA

The Thrashers have exercised their walk-away rights in the arbitration case of Clarke MacArthur, making him an unrestricted free agent.  MacArthur was awarded $2.4 million but the writing was on the wall when the Thrashers acquired Andrew Ladd from the Blackhawks.

Counting the remaining RFAs, the Thrashers have 12 forwards on their roster who played in the NHL last season, plus prospects like Spencer Machacek, Patrice Cormier, Carl Klingberg and Alex Burmistrov vying for jobs.

Maybe I am wrong, but I dont see how MacArthur did anything to warrant $2.4 million. Crazy! Glad we walked away from that!

  2. MC says:

Clarke who? Seriously, I wasn’t very impressed with him last season. I think we gave up too much to get him in the first place. He should do well in the KHL though.

  3. Zim says:

$2.4 million to Clarke MacArthur? I’m suddenly very nervous about Andrew Ladd’s arbitration hearing on July 29. If an individual career-high of 35 points and a -16 nets $2.4 million, then Ladd’s Stanley Cup ring(s) and better point production over the last couple seasons could drive his price to more than $3.5 million in the eyes of an arbiter.

MacArthur going back to Buffalo. He did ok, but we need good.

You’re a flat out joke MacArthur. You don’t deserve a dime over $1.5 million. Have fun trying to sign another NHL contract with those type of salary demands.

  6. Badger Bob says:

Regier sent CMac away “to clear room for some of our guys from Portland”. To bring him back at an even higher salary would be absurd!

Hopefully the arbitrators see Mac get a contract for less than 3/4 of what they awarded and re-calibrate their bizarro award calculation machine.

Makes more room for the up and coming. 2.4???

Hey Ben will you give us updates on whether or not Dud will pursue Poni or Stemp (it might be a rumor but I would love 2 see them in atl)

  9. Thrasher$uperfan88 says:

Thanks Ben but Thrashers surely would look nice with poni and ant on the same line
